Frequently Asked Questions

Is my data really encrypted?

Yes. All messages are end-to-end encrypted using state-of-the-art cryptography. Your messages are encrypted on your device before being sent, and only the intended recipient can decrypt them. We cannot read your messages.

What happens if I lose my recovery phrase?

Your recovery phrase is the only way to restore your encryption keys on a new device. If you lose it and don't have Vault backup enabled, you won't be able to decrypt your existing messages on a new device. We recommend writing it down and storing it securely.

What is Vault backup?

Vault is an optional encrypted backup of your encryption keys. It allows you to recover your account on a new device using a passphrase you set. Your keys are encrypted before being stored, so we can never access them.

How do trust requests work?

Trust requests help prevent spam and unwanted messages. When someone new wants to message you, they must first send a trust request. You can accept or decline these requests. Once you accept, you can communicate freely with that person.
